25 Vintage Recipes That Will Take Away Your Appetite

We’re spoiled today in that we have the Internet and Food Network and availability to fresh ingredients in which we can make meals that are actually relatively appetizing, in most cases.

And a lot of us grew up with grandparents telling us how they could feed a family of 23 on a package of beef, gelatin, and a pound of potatoes, and they often tried to force you to eat some of their “favorite classic recipes.”

Those recipes usually included words like “mold,” “loaf,” “salad,” “casserole,” and Jell-O, along with a lot of mayonnaise and even more NOPE.

Call me spoiled, but these horrifying meals should be left in the past.

Ham and Banana Hollandaise

Three words that should never, ever go together.

Liver Sausage Pineapple

It’s a pound of liver sausage with lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and mayo shaped like a pineapple, and the lovely yellow coating is made out of unflavored gelatin and mayonnaise. Dig in!

Frosted Ribbon Loaf

I don’t want anything with ham, mayonnaise, pickles, and tomatoes to be “frosted” with anything, much less with cream cheese.

SPAM ‘N’ Limas

As if SPAM wasn’t enough to “appetize” you, cover it in a mystery “Spanish” sauce, sugar, lard, and lima beans. Mmmm!

Perfection Salad

Carrots, cabbage, pimento, Jell-O…this appears to be neither salad nor perfection.
